It’s that time of year again. The air is crisp, leaves are falling, and it’s a good time to tidy up your bamboo plantings. Raking leaves and other debris from around the base of your plants gets rid of hiding places for bugs and fungi. Then bed your plants down with a layer of fresh mulch. Now is a good time to check the perimeter of your planting bed. If it has a barrier, check for any rhizomes trying to leap over and cut them off. If there is no barrier, check the edge line with a pick to detect any errant rhizomes and cut them off with a sharp shovel or loppers.
