bamboo or hickory backing for brazilian wallnut bow also called EPE ?

i have a hickory bow im quite satisfyed with, i like the durability and look of the boo and it has great memory, a friend of mine used sinew and topped it with rattlesnake, strong pull and great looking but i would fear scratches while in the brush.
