What is environmentally worse, disposable chopsticks or disposable plastic flatware?
Yes, I know you’ll probably say both! But that’s not the question. People like to take it slow and I’m not quite ready to wash my silverware at work. So, that being said, given only the two choices, which is better? I thought it was the bamboo chopsticks because I heard bamboo was a fast growing renewable resource, but after reading some reports it appears that it is a significant source of deforestation in China. So what is worse I guess, non-biodegradable plastic, or deforestation? LOL Makes me really want to do silverware…. almost…
It takes 100 years for a forest to regrow and 2000 for plastic to decompose. That’s not factoring in the recycling aspects, oil refining to develop the plastic, biodegradable alternatives (hello plastarch), etc.
