how do I take care of my baby praying mantis?
My friend hatched a clutch of them and she gave me one. Its probably only about as long as my thumbnail. She said to feed it crickets but to be honest the crickets look like they’re going to eat poor little peanut not the other way around. :^| right now because i was in a rush (longs story) it has a few water drops in its cage, a dead moth, and a bamboo skewer as a perch. I just need any info on how to take care of them and what to put in their cage and how to handle them etc. Also are those flightless fruit flies from petco good for him to eat? Thanx. I just want peanut to have a happy life :^)
Like mle mentioned, feed it fruitflies until it get bigger then you can feed it crickets and meal worms, pretty much any insect that is about 1/2 the size of your mantis or smaller. It will need some kind of damp substrate for humidity when it molts, I use papertowels, they are cheap and small feeder insects won’t get lost in it. Most mantids especially small nymphs will drink water droplets off the sides of their enclosure so it’s a good idea to mist it’s enclosure lightly with water once a day in addition to some kind of substrate, be careful not to spray too much though if the water drops are to big the baby mantis can get stuck in it and drown.
