How do I remove a bamboo ‘plantation’?
I planted a bamboo plant in my garden several years ago. Its now taking over, with bamboo 75mm diam., approx. 3m high and which is shooting roots out (just under the surface of the lawn) everywhere, which in turn sprout new shoots out of the ground. I have tried digging the offshoot roots out but the lawn now looks like a battle-ground. I have even broken off shoots and poured weedkiller down what remains in the ground, to no effect. I think it time to remove the main plant but how do you do this including all the extended root system?
Our company specializes in Tree Removal so I will give you some free tips. I am sure you know how to cut them down, then rent a stump grinder and grind the roots down below the surface, any exposed roots treat with root killer (copper sulphate), then cover back up. If they grow back again treat them with salt changing the PH balance of the soil making it hospitable. If you get to salt be careful as it will kill surrounding plants in excess. 50lb bag should do.
