bamboo prices australia
Which Wacom tablet would suit me best?

I’ve been looking at the Bamboo series, in Australia – specifically the 147mm x 93mm (It’s around $150). This would be my first tablet, I’d just like to have it for my visual communication classes, and to built up my skills in photoshop and illustrator. Is there a particular model you could suggest? It is also a matter of price, so it doesn’t have to be the best of the best. Is my current preference sounding good and is it value for my money?

It’s hard to say, it depends on your preference really. I am in communication art classes myself, and have a couple class mates who also have tablets. One has the largest available, the other has a bamboo. I myself have one in the middle-sized range. If I were you I would go with the small intuos (intuos is what I have, the old version anyway) http://www.wacom.com.au/intuos4/price it’s the cheapest out of the intros line. From what I understand the bamboo is more like a mouse in terms of sensitivity and function; whereas the intuos is much more pressure sensitive. With programs like photoshop, pressure sensitivity will give you and advantage. Believe me, using a tablet (once you get used to it) is 10 times easier than a mouse. I’m not saying the bamboo is bad, but if you plan on doing a lot of photoshop and illustrator I would recommend the intuos; it’s more expensive but you get what you pay for.
