My deck torches are rusting, is this normal (more in details)?
Should I return them or what? The thing says weather-resistant coating but I am seeing signs of rust already. I wanted to leave them out for the summer and then take them down in the fall. I figured you could leave these things outside for the summer because they are mounted to my deck and I don’t want to have to take them down and empty the oil every time I want to use the things this summer. I figured it would be nice to be able to light them when I need and just enjoy the summer without so much work. Any ideas on what I should do? I bought these at Lowe’s. Are there any better torches that will last through the damn summer without rusting? And not those cheap bamboo ones either because those pretty much only last a season.
They are weather resistant, not weather proof. For something to be left out without taking too much damage from the elements, you are going to end up paying a lot more and have trouble finding them. You could take the ones you have, wire brush the rust off of them and spray them with Rustoleum or something comparable.
Also, the bamboo style ones last longer then you would think, the set I have on my back patio is going on 4 years now, and they have spent the last two winters out there also. Some wear to them, but still in pretty decent shape. (I live in NE Ohio, so they do see some harsh winter weather.)
