Types of Bamboo Flooring

There are different types of bamboo flooring, both in terms of cut and of color. If we talk about the way in which the bamboo planks are produced, bamboo flooring can be classified as Solid and Strand Woven bamboo flooring. On the basis of color, bamboo flooring can be differentiated as Natural, Carbonized and Stained bamboo flooring.
Solid bamboo flooring makes use of several solid bamboo strips adhered together. Solid bamboo floors are available in vertical or horizontal style. Vertical bamboo flooring lays the bamboo strips on their narrow sides. In the vertical bamboo flooring, strips are laid across the floor in bunches with their border faces glued then compressed together. Vertical bamboo floor lacks the visible nodes and offers a more uniform look than horizontal bamboo floor. It is regarded as a durable and strong flooring choice because the edge grains of bamboo provide flooring of adequate thickness. Horizontal bamboo flooring lays the strips side by side and strips are glued then compressed together along the narrow dimensions. Horizontal or flat-grain bamboo flooring displays the knuckles or natural nodes of the bamboo in a way so the nodes are visible on the surface, adding to the attraction and natural beauty of the floor. As the strips in the horizontal bamboo flooring are glued in three cross-grained layers, it makes this type of bamboo floor tough and hard.
Strand Woven or Compressed bamboo flooring is made up of thin strands of bamboo material which are woven together and impregnated with an adhesive. This mixture is then heated under extreme pressure to create bamboo flooring with an attractive woven look and a beautiful pattern. Strand woven bamboo floors can also be produced from strands of both natural and carbonized bamboo, thus creating a unique and beautiful effect similar to tiger stripes. Engineered bamboo flooring consists of a surface layer of bamboo backed by multiple layers of pine, plywood or fiberboard underneath it.
